Object of the month June in the German Gemstone Museum

Object of the month June 20223 in the German Gemstone Museum, Photo: Jürgen Cullmann, Lichtblick-Design

In June the German Gemstone Museum shows as object of the month this beautiful black and white gem with pearl rim.

Chain and setting are made of 585/yellow gold. The pendant can also be worn as a brooch.

The cameo was engraved in Idar-Oberstein between 1880 - 1890 and was a family heirloom that was always passed down through generations. The owner, who is from Idar-Oberstein, lives in Denmark and would like such a beautiful piece to be available to the public.

So this enchanting piece of jewelry came back home and will be part of the exhibition.

The German Gemstone Museum is very grateful to Dr. Wolf Wucherpfennig for this generous donation.

Further informationen about the german gemstone museum can be found here.

"24 Hours of Rhineland-Palatinate" - June 24/25, 2023

Hiking event for a good cause

On June 24, the ninth edition of the hiking event "24-Hours of Rhineland-Palatinate" will start.

The hike starts at 08:30 in Hennweiler at the Wandermarktplatz. The hikers will be accompanied at the start by the guggemusic "Level Lots". From there, the hikers will set off with the goal of hiking a total of 75.8 km on 3 hiking loops in 24 hours.

The day loop (32.4 km) runs via Dhaun to Simmertal and on to Weiler, where lunch is served. Strengthened, it then continues via Monzingen, in the direction of Martinstein via Hochstädten, to St. Johannisberg and quickly to Hennweiler.

The twilight loop (24.7 km) leads into the valley to Hahnenbach and further uphill past Griebelschied to Berschweiler. From there, the route then leads in the direction of Kirn and via Kallenfels and Wartenstein Castle back to Hennweiler.

The night loop (18.7 km) goes from Hennweiler through the Lützelsoon to Schlierschied, past Woppenroth and back via Schneppenbach. It continues to the Teufelsfels with the Teufelshütte and finally to Hennweiler for breakfast.

On the way there are many surprises and numerous clubs from the region support with catering. A large part of the hikers takes up the challenge for the second time. With their participation and a donation of at least 1 € per kilometer, they contribute to a donation for children in need of about 30,000 €.

Rock protection work in Oberstein continues

Felsenkirche remains closed

Dear visitors, walkers and hikers,

The rock securing work in the Oberstein district above the Felsenkirche continues, due to previously unforeseeable additionally needed securing, until the end of June 2019.

Please note that the path to the castle, as well as the access to the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, to the Traumschleife Nahe-Felsen-Weg and the Hildegard-von-Bingen pilgrimage path is diverted from the marketplace, as the use of the paths below the church can be life-threatening.

This also means that the Felsenkirche is not accessible while the rock securing work takes place.

The barriers blocking the original path have been broken up repeatedly, which is not only dangerous, but also a criminal offense.

We will inform you here as well as on our Facebook-page as soon as the path and church will be opened again.

419. Info-Tel.: 06781-64871.
