Nahe-Cycle Path

The Nahe ripples merrily along as if it wants to catch up with the cyclists. Sometimes it flows quite calmly, reflecting the glittering sun and shimmering in shades of green and blue. In other places, it jumps wildly over the rocks and trout jump excitedly in the water. Cycling close to nature - that's what the Nahe Cycle Path offers in its purest form, including secluded places to rest and relax.

The 128-kilometer Nahe Cycle Path stretches from its source in Selbach on Lake Bostal in the Saarland to where it flows into the Rhine near Bingen, largely directly along the river. The route is varied, with some crisp climbs and relaxing descents.

The first 50 kilometers of the Nahe Cycle Path run between the Hunsrück and the North Palatinate Mountains as far as Idar-Oberstein. There are occasional steep climbs to be mastered. From Idar-Oberstein, the path is close to the river and comfortable to ride, passing rocky slate and quartzite formations, Hunsrück forests and through the gemstone region around Idar-Oberstein.

The Nahe cycle path will be fully closed for 6-8 weeks between Kronweiler and Idar-Oberstein starting 31.05.2021 due to construction measures in the district of Birkenfeld. A detour (via train) is signposted.
