The “Felsenkirche” church – legendary and unique
The town's famous landmark, the medieval church (built between 1482 and 1484), is visible from afar and towers above Idar-Oberstein. Even the ascent is a worthwhile experience: you can reach the interior through a tunnel cut into the rock massif. There are 234 steps to climb from the market square to the church.
Please note that the rock church is closed to visitors during wedding ceremonies. The gates of the rock church are open to visitors during guided tours on selected dates.
